The Politic of Voices

The Politic of Voices, 2014

3-channel video, sound, HD, 23 min.

The piece derives from interviews with three people that have chosen to share one parenthood without sharing love relations with each other. They only participate with their voices to avoid recognition. In the interview they describe the process of making a family and trying to bypass the regulations that exist so that all the three of them can be regarded as parents.

In a typical middle class living room actors are sat down, miming to the sound of the recorded interviews. The piece is projected on three screens in the room that turns off and on at different times. In that way it becomes a queer viewing of the piece; it is impossible for the viewer to look at everything that is happening in the video at once which allows for several perspectives to exist side by side.
